The Journal of Bone and Mineral Research published a study (CBD) strengthens bones and accelerates the healing of | Cannabis Sciences. THC does potentiate the CBD stimulated work-to-failure 6 weeks post fracture. Medical marijuana is used to treat the symptoms of conditions such as cancer and multiple sclerosis, but now a different form of the drug has. Scientists in Israel continue to establish their work as the leading source of data on medical cannabis. In a combined study conducted primarily.
MARIJUANA FRACTURES HELPS MEDICAL HOW HEAL
Researchers also looked at the size of the fracture as it healed, comparing it to fractures on rats without CBD dosage. By using micro-computed tomography, researchers were able to demonstrate that the size of the fracture, and not just the rate of new bone cells, was improved with CBD as well. The two other metrics used in the study, work-to-failure rate and maximal load, were also both improved by the dosage of CBD. The rats were able to push their healing fractures much more than rats not dosed with CBD, showing that CBD not only increased the speed at which the injuries were healed, but it also made the process of healing a lot easier on the rat.
The effects that CBD had on healing bones were not also present when dosed with THC, suggesting that CBD alone has the ability to influence the bone cell regeneration rate. At both 6 weeks and 8 weeks post-fracture, there was a noticeable improve in failure rate when both THC and CBD were used. Though this study was done on rats, the implication for humans is absolutely amazing — not only does the study demonstrate that CBD helps bones heal themselves faster, it also shows that a mix of THC and CBD is the most effective.
This is significant for the endless fight against the federal government for legalization. Only very recently, CBD was federally legalized for the purpose of treating two specific forms of epilepsy. With one more piece of concrete evidence for the benefit of THC when mixed with CBD, the legalization argument can shift away from simple recreational use towards medicinal necessity.
True legalization is a long way off, but by introducing the idea of medicinal uses for both CBD and THC to the government, we can make them understand how useful they are.
Additionally, thanks to this study we now know that we could be using CBD to improve our health both pre- and post bone fracture. By being able to take a medicine ourselves that could increase our rate of healing, we can finally start to heal the same way we did when we were kids. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Cannabis and Bone Health: In addition, X Ray evidence showed that fractures not only healed faster, they healed better with an increase in bone density over the control group.
It also strengthens bones, protecting them against future injuries. Though this research does not prove that CBD will work in humans, there are several other research studies that show definitively that the Cannabinoid receptors modulate bone growth in humans. These various study findings - taken into combination - lead most researchers to conclude that CBD has a very high probability of working to heal fractures in homo sapiens.
This is fantastic news for the million people per decade that suffer from fractures worldwide. Doing the math, these figures are probably a bit low as most everyone has one fracture in their lifetime. And this news is even better for the elderly and middle aged. Bone and vertebral degeneration is implicated is epidemic in the aging. While further study is required to prove - what the short and long term effects of CBD and many other Cannabinoids are exactly, there is no reason at all why patients and doctors can't get moving now.
Doctors can recommend MMJ legally and it's been shown to be a very safe medicine. In California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado and many other states, Medical Doctors may recommend Cannabis in the treatment of specified disease symptoms and conditions. THC and other Cannabinoids have been shown beyond doubt, that they manipulate body receptors, including and especially the CB1 bone growth controlling mechanism.
But, the study does lay new ground and points to the possibility that CBD in some form might be used to help bone healing in people. He points out that the Israeli study was performed in rats with broken thighbones, not in people.
He explains that bone cells express receptors for cannabinoids, the active ingredients in marijuana cannabis. The brain also has a high concentration of cannabinoid 1 CB1 receptors. Abrams explains that humans — and all animal species down to sponges — have cannabinoid receptors, not because we were meant to use cannabis, but because we make our own endogenous cannabinoids known as endocannabinoids.
These substances are involved in many physiologic functions, with modulation of pain being one of the most important. Another plant cannabinoid that has been getting a lot of scientific attention is cannabidiol CBD. CBD is being investigated as an anti-seizure medicine, especially in children with congenital epileptic syndromes, which are difficult to treat.
Cannabidiol Enhances Fracture Healing
Why the Study Linking Cannabis to Bone Healing Was Likely Over-Hyped A new study claims that a component in cannabis may help heal broken bones, but Dr. Margaret Gedde, who has treated only medical marijuana patients since. OC3 Medical and Recreational Dispensary is Orange County's Premier Marijuana Dispensary Offering Cannabis Flowers, Edibles. Got pot?
